In 2007, a poll among many children revealed that Mickey is a very well-know and very appreciate character.  96% of the girls asked know Mickey, and 70% of them like him.  Concerning the boys, 98% know Mickey, and 61% of them like him.



Mickey Mouse - State of the Art since 1928

1928: Mickey Mouse is born! Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made their debut appearance on November 18, 1928 in Steamboat Willie, the world's first completely-synchronised sound cartoon and which created an overnight sensation at the Colony Theatre in New York.

1929: The first Mickey Mouse Clubs open in US movie theatres.  By 1932 there are 800 different groups with a total membership of over a million children.  The first Mickey Mouse merchandise item, a writing tablet, goes on sale.

1930: Mickey Mouse comic strips first appeared in newspapers on Jan 13 of this year.  The first Mickey Mouse book is published.

1932: Walt Disney is presented with an honorary Academy Award for the creation of Mickey Mouse.  Mickey Mouse is embraced by the Italians, as Topolino.

1934: Mickey receives an entry in the Encyclopaedia Britannica.  The first Le Journal de Mickey is published in France.

1935: Mickey stars in The Band Concert, which was the world's first full color cartoon ever made.

1936: Mickey Mouse Weekly lauches in Britain.

1939: The British television screening of Mickey's Gala Premiere is interrupted at the outbreak of WW II.  One of the oddest Mickey items was a Mickey Mouse gas mask, created in England to encourage British kids to carry their gas masks with them.  Mickey Mouse was also a code word for the invasion of Frane on D Day.

1940: Mickey Mouse makes his first feature film appearance as the star of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" in Fantasia.

1941: "Lend a Paw" becomes Mickey's first cartoon to win an Oscar.

1942: Minnie Mouse stars in wartime film Out of the Frying Pan into the Firing Line, which stressed that housewives should save used cooking fat, which could help provide glycerin for the war effort.

1955: Mickey Mouse greets the first guests to Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

1971: Walt Disney World opens in Florida, featuring the Mickey Mouse Revue in which an Audio-Animatronics figure of Mickey Mous led an orchestra in a concert of Disney songs.

1978: The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honoured Mickey with his own star on Hollywood Boulevard.  The first cartoon character, so honoured, he's right there between Sir Elton John and Jack Nicholson.

1980: The home video revolution also begins this year, enabling Disney fans to buy their own video cassette compilations of the cartoons.

1983: The Disney Channel begins broadcasting and Mickey Mouse cartoons are back on TV.

1988: Walt Disney World opened Mickey's Birthdayland to commemorate his 60th. Disneyland followed with Mickey's Toontown.
